Congratulations to our Entrepreneurship Class on winning 1st place in a competition sponsored by the University of Delaware on October 17th!
Twelve schools from NJ, NY, CT, PA, MD, and the Republic of Panama participated in this challenge. Within an hour, each team was asked to develop a business solution for the same problem: "How do you interest middle school students, from a disadvantaged background, in a career as a medical doctor?"
Our students' ideas included:
Develop a "B Corporation" (a Benefit Business.)
This company would develop a competitive video game that would portray a career in medicine as being "cool."
The game would be specifically designed for a target market of middle school students.
To enhance interest, the game would be competitive. Participants would be ranked.
To maximize participation, cash prizes would be offered. Opportunities to "shadow" medical doctors would also be offered.
The game would be given away free to students.
Funding would be sought from the Ford Foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and other organizations interested in social justice and also the medical field.
All of our entrepreneurship students participated in the competition by sharing their thoughts and ideas. On behalf of the class, Samantha Farrugia and Sofia Jimenez made an excellent presentation to the judges! Samantha and Sofia summarized our students' ideas and the specific advantages of their business.
Great job by all, we are so proud of you!
