Health Office

Saint John Vianney High School is committed to preserving the health and well-being of all students and staff members. Our school Health Office is available to students while on campus and establishes protocols to promote well-being throughout the learning community. Please review our current policies carefully so that we may maintain a healthier student body.

If you have questions about enrollment requirements and other health-related policies, please feel free to contact our school nurse at ext. 125.

Sick Student Protocol

We understand that your child’s education is a top priority. However, our school health office urgently requests that you keep your child home if he or she is ill. Doing so helps prevent the spread of illness among fellow students, staff, and instructors.

If your child must miss school due to illness, please call the Attendance Office at ext. 124 to report their absence. When a doctor’s visit is necessary, we ask that you request a note from the child’s physician. Students may bring notes to the Attendance Office when they are well enough to resume classes.

Immunization Requirements

The potential for infectious disease spread is present in every group setting. To protect against the most serious health risks, the state of New Jersey imposes several requirements for student immunization. Barring any medical exemptions, students must receive a series of immunizations before school attendance. These required immunizations include:

  • DTaP (Diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis)

  • IPV (Inactivated polio vaccine)

  • MMR (Measles, mumps, and rubella)

  • Varicella (Chickenpox)

  • Hepatitis B

  • Meningococcal

  • Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis)

Proof of immunization must be presented before the first day of school. No student will be admitted until their required immunizations are up-to-date and on record. If your child cannot receive immunizations due to medical reasons, their physician or an advanced practice nurse may submit a written statement explaining which immunizations should not be administered, the period for which they should be avoided, and the medical reasons they are not recommended. Please note that exemptions based on philosophical, moral, secular, or general preferences are not accepted as valid.

Student Health Forms

All parents must provide documentation that states students have received a current physical examination from their physician. These exams provide us with accurate health records and help ensure your child is up-to-date on all necessary immunizations and other health needs.

If your child must use an inhaler or suffers from severe allergies, please fill out and return the appropriate forms below to the school nurse along with their physical forms:

Both forms provide our school health office with information about the medications that should be administered, who will administer them, and which triggers and symptoms may require their use.

We request that parents schedule and complete a physical for all children who will attend Saint John Vianney High School and forward the exam records to our school health office before enrollment.

Please note that we are unable to admit any student until his or her forms are complete and up-to-date.
