In addition to offering a robust selection of Honors, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment courses, the school incorporates innovative teaching methods and resources to engage students and foster critical thinking skills. SJV's dedicated faculty members work closely with students to provide personalized support and guidance, which promotes a culture of academic excellence and achievement and helps students prepare for successful and meaningful lives – now and after graduation.
Block Scheduling
Saint John Vianney High School utilizes 4x4 block scheduling to ensure students grow to their maximum potential. Each student takes four classes per day in semester-long periods that enable them to focus more closely on each subject. Between the Fall and Spring semesters, students can choose eight courses every year, offering a plethora of academic benefits that cannot be achieved with traditional scheduling.
Traditional middle and high school scheduling places students in six or seven 40 to 50-minute classes daily. In contrast, SJV's block schedule enrolls students in only four 77-minute classes per semester, meaning courses that would usually take one year to complete can now be completed in one semester.
Students using block scheduling learn faster and more productively due to the increased class time. Block scheduling is similar to the course schedule students will experience in college, thus better preparing them for higher education. Block scheduling affords students more opportunities to complete Advanced Placement courses for college credit or enroll in our Early College Academy.
SJV's block scheduling allows teachers to benefit from increased class time per session, enabling them to incorporate small group discussions and entire class activities, including student presentations, labs, research, etc.
